There are several very significant passages in the Bible, an understanding of which is crucial in comprehending who and what it is we are and what it is we are supposed to be doing on Earth.
It is easy to say that we are children of God, but the truth of the statement is not so easy to grasp and comprehend. Commensurate to our failure to truly "get" who we are, is the degree of our failure in carrying out our mission on Earth.
Know thyself. Yahshua is the firstborn of many brothers. Hebrews 2.10
“. . . ye believe not,
because ye are not of my sheep,
as I said unto you.
My sheep hear my voice,
and I know them,
and they follow me:
And I give unto them eternal life;
and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man
pluck them out of my hand.
My Father,
which gave them me,
is greater than all;
and no man is able to pluck them
out of my Father's hand.
I and my Father are one."
Then the Jews took up stones
again to stone him.
Jesus answered them,
"Many good works
have I shewed you from my Father;
for which of those works
do ye stone me?"
The Jews answered him,
saying,
"For a good work we stone thee not;
but for blasphemy;
and because that thou,
being a man,
makest thyself God."
Jesus answered them,
"Is it not written in your law,
'I said, Ye are gods?'
If he called them gods,
unto whom the word of God came,
and the scripture cannot be broken;
Say ye of him,
whom the Father hath sanctified,
and sent into the world,
Thou blasphemest; because I said,
I am the Son of God?
If I do not the works of my Father,
believe me not.
But if I do,
though ye believe not me,
believe the works:
that ye may know, and believe,
that the Father is in me,
and I in him." John 10.26-38 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. Psalms 82:5-6
If these signs shall follow them that believe, how can I say I believe when these signs don't follow me?
Obviously "believe" which means "to have faith" means something far greater than the recitation of the mere lip service of magic words!
"And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, 'Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.' Then Jesus answered and said, 'O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.' And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, 'Why could not we cast him out?' And Jesus said unto them, 'Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.'" Matthew 17.14-20
If those who learned directly from the King had difficulty doing the impossible we should not be disheartened by our difficulty, rather, we should be more determined!
Jesus said unto him, "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth."
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." Mark 9.23,24
